Fowey Community Leisure Centre
The management of the Leisure Centre became the direct responsibility of Fowey Community College in April 2003. Since this time the staff has been strengthened, the facilities improved - Sky TV in the Gym, mirrors in the Gym, improved training equipment - the Elements Membership increased considerably, usage increased and above all the care customers are given has improved
The focus of the Centre is directed on the needs of the community and works closely with local clubs and organisations. In particular, Fowey Cricket Club has benefited hugely from the regular use of the sports hall's cricket nets and the assistance towards offering coaching sessions to youngsters. Having the Cricket Club as such an important part of the whole campus provides youngsters with a real opportunity to either develop their own game or for youngsters to try it themselves. Following a similar model has been the formation of Fowey Netball Club who now play in the Cornwall League and similarly provides an exit route from school or simply playing at a social level.
The Leisure Centre really is now providing a hub of community activity without members of the community having to become members, there is no standard of play required to use the Centre and, with a thriving holiday activity programme, there is something for all ages, interest, gender and ability.
Fitness Industry Association
Fowey Leisure Centre is a member of the Fitness Industry Association, one of only a few clubs and centres locally, the 'trade' body of the Health and Fitness Industry. As such Fowey complies fully with the Industry Code of Practice and provides a copy of this to all prospective new members.
As with the FIA, the Leisure Centre is particularly committed to develop high standards within the Industry - hence the reason for being an active member of the Association.
